Bodum New Kenya 17-Ounce Tea Press, Black

Bodum New Kenya 17-Ounce Tea Press, Black

Eye-catching in design with swooping curves, the black plastic frame on the New Kenya tea press adds to the anticipation of the fragrant brew. Bodum makes the teapot itself of borosilicate glass, the lightweight, heat-resistant kind found in science labs; all the rest of the parts, including the filter, are made of plastic except for the stainless-steel plunging rod. The plastic frame conveniently helps insulate the bottom of the hot teapot from your table. This particular model holds 17 ounces of tea, enough to fill approximately two mugs or four teacups.

To brew tea in the New Kenya, measure loose leaf tea into the filter, add nearly-boiling water, put the lid in place, and let it brew. When you feel the tea is strong enough, depress the plunger. The leaves are compacted, which stops the brewing process. That way, you can enjoy the serene act of brewing the tea at your table without having the mess of removing the filter. After use, all the parts may be rinsed or washed by hand or placed in the dishwasher. --Ann Bieri
